چکیده

Liquid Gripper In article number 2100274, Liang Hu, Yen Wei, Jing Liu, and co-workers present a magnetic liquid gripper based on metallic ferrofluid that enables intimate contact with arbitrarily shaped objects then generates strong adhesion force upon solidification, which can be reversibly eliminated by moderate melting. Through coupling the magnetism of switchable to objects, any non-magnetic targets manipulated via an applied field.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).

By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

Roton Fermi liquid: A metallic phase of two-dimensional electrons

We introduce and analyze a metallic phase of two-dimensional s2Dd electrons, the roton Fermi liquid sRFLd, which, in contrast to the Landau–Fermi liquid, supports both gapless fermionic and bosonic quasiparticle excitations. The RFL is accessed using a reformulation of 2D electrons consisting of fermionic quasiparticles and hc /2e vortices interacting with a mutual long-ranged statistical inter...

Vitrification and Crystallization of Phase-Separated Metallic Liquid

The liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) behavior of Fe50Cu50 melt from 3500 K to 300 K with different rapid quenching is investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation based on the embedded atom method (EAM). The liquid undergoes metastable phase separation by spinodal decomposition in the undercooled regime and subsequently solidifies into three different Fe-rich microstructures: the int...
